Considerations before selling

Most people we deal with have happy, inspiring stories, and their courage in speaking out leaves their friends, family, employers and employees proud. Many are contacted (via us) from total strangers who want to applaud them, or share similar experiences. One lady we interviewed felt as though she was the only person in the world to have been through what she has, but through talking publicly, she is now in contact with an individual in America who is in the exact same situation. Both are a great support to each other.

However, in certain instances, it is important to take a few things into consideration before you sell your story. They are namely whether the story could negatively affect your friends, family or children, and whether you might one day wish you hadn’t spoken publicly after all.

Don’t forget, if you do an interview and pictures for a magazine, then it will be published! Your friends and family will see the article – even if you don’t tell them about it, they will hear about it from someone else. If you don’t feel confident having your story in print, then we advise you NOT to do it!

Depending on your circumstances, we may also advise you that selling a story is not the right thing for you to do at this current point in time. There have been a number of people who we have said this to, largely because they seem too emotional to be cope with the media spotlight turning on their lives. If this is what we feel, this is what we advise individuals even if they have the best story in the world.

We can offer advice on all the issues above, and work with you to help minimise any potential pitfalls. Talk to us to find out more.
