This week we helped Amanda Sparrow promote her Pirates of the Caribbean Jack Sparrow impersonation business. Super-fan Amanda has spent thousands of pounds turning herself into Jack Sparrow.
Amanda Sparrow, who changed her surname from Large, has splashed out more than £4,000 getting tattoos, gold plated teeth and dreadlocks to transform herself into her favourite pirate.
The 43-year-old mum-of-four dresses as the pirate daily and she even changed her surname last month through deed poll in a bid to be closer to her favourite movie character. She decided to make the transformation after watching the film series for the first time January – because her 13-year-old daughter said that she was just like Johnny Depp’s beloved character.
Amanda, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, said: “My daughter Carla Rose screamed in front of the TV – ‘Mum you are so much like Jack Sparrow!’ and I was like – ‘who is JackSparrow’?
“I settled down to watch 15 minutes with her as it was on Sky and I was instantly hooked. The way he gets on with life, his freedom and his walk is so much like me in personality – I’m quite masculine and have that sense. The way he deals with things is identical to me. I just really related to him.”
The mum, who works part-time as a salesperson, has now set up a Jack Sparrowimpersonator business off the back of her new look. She said: “I live life looking like this on a day to day basis. The stuck on beard is the only thing I remove.
“I’ve spent over £4,000 on my transformation and gone through three exact replica painful tattoos. I love looking like this and people think I look great. I really connected with the character and thought why not?”
The single mum reckons her kids are proud of her madcap transformation – but it hasn’t helped her find a new partner.
She added: “My four children love it, but my dad thought I was too old to be dressing like a pirate. Now I’m using by new look and doing parties and charity work. I love the way I now look. I love seeing people’s reactions and get a really good response. Hopefully I can do more charity work off the back of it.”
