We love to blow our own trumpets, especially when we win awards, recognition and praise from our peers, but this time Talk to the Press reached the final of an entirely different national media competition…
When TTTP aren’t working hard to place your stories in the national press, we’re out on team bonding exercises.
Last week, we got caught up in the world cup euphoria and were invited to St. George’s Park in Staffordshire (home of English Football Association’s national football centre) to take part in The Conti Media Cup – a tournament for journalists.
The day was sponsored by World Cup sponsors Continental Tyres.
The event, on Friday 13th June, kicked off at 1pm and went on until 4pm. During that time, female and male five-a-side teams from The Sun, BBC Sport, Talk Sport, Shortlist, Top Gear and other programmes/ titles battled it out.
The Sun team scooped the cup for the men’s tournament and BBC Sport won the women’s tournament. Incredibly, TTTP’s very own feature writer Emily Cope made her way into the finals and was handed a runners up medal by England legend Des Walker.
After a long day playing football in the sun, we enjoyed a Brazilian-themed-BBQ at the onsite Hilton hotel and then sat down to watch Netherlands thrash Spain 5 -1 and, later, Chile beat Australia 3-1. Stars of the women’s game Sue Smith and Faye White joined us for drinks and a chat.
Needless to say, we had a bit of a ‘late one’ and we felt quite fragile on the team coach back to London the following morning! But we had such a fab time, we’re now starting our very own TTTP five-a-side team! Who knows? Maybe in a year or two England will come calling…
Leisure time aside, please think of us if you’re ever considering sharing a story with the press. Apart from football finals, we’ve also been nominated for tons of awards, some of which are mentioned on our Awards page.
